The Face in the Sky

The summer sun was drying the droplets on my body.  The sea breeze cooled my head with the wet hair.  Stretching on the wet towel, I found myself gazing into the sky.  In the mysterious deep blue screen, randomly, a white cloud went passing by.  My tired body and an active mind started to concentrate on a coming cloud.  I could see a beautiful face surrounded with long and ungroomed hair.  “That’s a face I know”, I said to myself.  The many thoughts that entered my mind were still analyzing the face.  The face kept on changing as if it was happy to see me.  The shy smile was further leading me into a dream world.  My eager eyes were following the face when many other clouds started to gather around it.  It was a tropical island, so the dark rain clouds suddenly approached in the sky, invading my beautiful face.  The last my meditative mind could recall was that of the dark clouds looking like the Johannesburg skyline and my pretty face was saying goodbye, waving her hands as if she was calling me to follow her.

Big droplets of water started to hit my half-naked body and I suddenly jumped up, grabbed my few things and walked up to the covered area of the hotel. I was convinced that the beautiful face in the sky was the girl I knew in Johannesburg.  Looking around hastily I walked away, determined to find this face.  My restless

mind was convinced that I will find her.

The vacation was over and I was back at work in Johannesburg.  Waiting for the subway train, the beautiful face was stimulating every part of my body.  With a fine rumbling sound, the subway train came to a stop.  The door opened.  I got in and just turned to see the others disembarking.  I recognised the face and it was the same, just than the door slammed shut and the train started to move.  I stood stunned and amazed at the reality.  My search for that face deepened.  I travelled in trains, buses, walked around, went to every gathering but could not find the face again.  In the meantime, I neglected my work, spent most of my money and wasted time daydreaming of the face in the sky.  I was now in love with her.

When reality struck me, I was devastated.  The pretty face in the sky destroyed my life.  Having realized the real world, I married my childhood sweetheart Sera and settled down in a small country town. ‘Don’t let imaginary dreams destroy your life but live in the real world!’ Was the final warning and I recovered from the loss.
